The first of three intelligent, energy-saving furnaces set to transform slab production at China’s Shenglong Metallurgical Co is now ready to operate.

The No. 3 slab reheating furnace is 62 metres long -  the largest of its kind in China - and has been dried off successfully.

It will feed reheated slabs to the Shenglong’s downstream 2,250mm hot rolling line.

CISDI Thermal and Environmental Engineering Co is the EPC-based contractor for the three advanced furnaces, which will use less energy, save on costs and have greater reliability.

The two further furnaces are under construction. Each will achieve an hourly output of 405 tonnes and a maximum of 500 tonnes.

They will play an important role in Shenglong’s pursuit of high quality, super efficient, low-carbon and intelligent production.

Their slab reheating quality and energy consumption indicators will be the best in China.
