Construction of blast furnace 2 at Xianfu Steel, in China’s Yunnan Province, is progressing well.

The 5-channel ball structures have been lifted into place, other bulky pieces are almost ready for lifting and equipment and pipework installation is underway.

The 1,350-cubic-metre furnace, designed and partly EPC-serviced by CISDI, will produce1.22 million tonnes of hot metal a year.

It will increase the plant’s green, smart credentials - all production processes will meet ultra-low emissions standards and achieve systematically enhanced efficiency.

The plant’s blast furnace 1, designed by CISDI, went into operation in January 2021, has been running smoothly since and is showing leading indicators.

The team has pulled together strengths from the customer, the supervision and construction companies and is utilising experience gained during furnace 1’s construction and operation to ensure furnace 2 can be started up on schedule and to the desired build quality.
