S&T: HV frequency converter for fast forging press goes into operation

China’s first development of a power rack for a 4-post pull-down fast forging press is now operational at Tiancheng Aerospace in China’s Shaanxi Province.

Founded in 2007, Shaanxi Tiancheng Aerospace Co (TCAE) is a high-tech enterprise which specialises in the production and research of titanium alloy materials.

The press is equipped with six dedicated HV frequency converters, each developed and supplied by CISDI Electric Technology Co in Beijing.

With a higher standard of dynamic and reliability, the frequency converters enable the press’s hydraulic system to function with uber-dynamic impact and response.

The converters’ control systems align with the variety of motor speeds required by six piston pumps, which activate the hydraulic system.

The hydraulic system serves a German-made fast forging press. One of the most sophisticated and largest of its kind in China, the press has a 10,000 tonne processing capacity.

The new application features CISDI’s latest version of its MVC 1200 standardised HV frequency converter. More than 10 years of upgrades and development have expanded the functions and CISDI’s converters are now showcasing super dynamic properties:

ü  speed-less vector control

ü  undisturbed switchover between line and variable frequencies

ü  HV and LV ride-through

ü  rotating speed tracking

ü  automatic bypass.

They are widely applied for driving asynchronous, separately-excited synchronous and permanent magnetic synchronous motors which serve fan, water pump, crusher and ball grinder systems.

The TCAE converters apply high-performance, speed-less vector control tech, enabling it to automatically, fast track the torque from the loads.

Their successful hot commissioning, which was carried out within a tight schedule, owed much to the team’s solutions to eradicate the converter’s overcurrent and overvoltage problem, which was being caused by the sudden change of hydraulic system loads. It now meets all of the press’s dynamic impact and response requirements.

Hundreds of intelligent, reliable HV frequency converters (200kW - 50MW) have now been supplied to metallurgical, coal, chemical, municipal and power generation sectors around the world.
